Every action on your Odoo, on the record
Someone left in March and nobody is quite sure what they still had, or what they did with it. That question has an answer, and finding it takes about thirty seconds.
Two records cover it, and they answer different questions. One is about people, the other about the platform.
The audit log covers people
Team actions, Login As, backups, deploys, permission changes. Who did it, what they did, when.
Each project has its own audit log, in the project sidebar. Everyone with access to the project is recorded there, whether they're on your team or someone you brought in from outside.
Jobs covers the platform
The background operations Shoovels ran on an instance, when they ran and how they finished. Backups mostly, and anything else the platform did without being asked.
Between the two, "who restored that database on Sunday" is a thirty second question rather than an afternoon.
Where it helps
Several people usually have access to your Odoo: colleagues, a developer, an outside consultant. Each of them can reach your customers, your invoices and your suppliers. Having a record of what each one did is useful for you, and for them too.
It also covers the everyday cases. A permission granted for one afternoon and never taken back. A restore nobody remembers doing. Either way, it's written down.
Worth knowing
This records what happened on the platform: access, deploys, backups, permission changes. What a user did inside Odoo is Odoo's own logging, and a different question.
Read alongside the project's member list, it answers both halves of the access question: who can do something, and who already did.
